Have you ever had this happen to you?
You sit in your home late at night. Nobody is awake. No sound can be heard. Except for that constant sound of water dripping. You search all over looking for the source to no avail. You have no idea where the noise is coming from.
Or maybe you get the mail and find your water bill. You know it will be a bit higher than last month. Its been hot after all. Yet when you open it up and discover the amount, you almost fall to the floor. THAT MUCH? No way. There is no way it can be that much. You must have a leak somewhere.
What you need to do is a water main leak check.
But how do you do that?
There’s one very simple way to see if you have a leak in your system.
First locate your water meter. The water meter sits on the outside of your home, usually along your property line. Its connected to the supply pipe that heads onto your property, and is used to bill for how much water you use each month. The meter is usually protected by a small square or circular cover with the words “water” or “meter” on it.
Late at night after everyone has gone to bed, its time to put the test into action. Head outside and back to the water meter. Record the numbers currently listed on the meter itself.
Then comes the easy part. Go to bed for 8 hours.
In the morning before your family rises and takes their showers, starts the dishwasher, or turns on the sprinkler system, head back out and take a reading once again.
Are there any changes in the reading? Small changes by a few numbers can simply be from a toilet flush or a drink of water. But significant changes can mean you have a leak.
And its time to contact your Denver plumber to find out exactly where that leak is.
